Kyle Flens (b. 1991 Baltimore, MD) is a multi-faceted percussionist based in Chicago, IL. He has presented music at the Percussive Arts Society International Convention, the National Music Festival, and the inaugural Ear Taxi Festival.
Kyle is a core member of Projeto Arcomusical, an ensemble that seeks to explore the musical possibilities of the berimbau – an Afro-Brazilian musical bow instrument. This project has toured through the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil and the Midwestern United States, and released its debut album MeiaMeia through Innova Recordings in October of 2016. Kyle has also performs with Clocks in Motion and toured with the Heartland Marimba Festival. As a collaborative artist He has worked in the facets of dance and theater, premiering original work The Traveling Feet with the Deep Vision Dance Company and creating music to Morgan State University’s production of The Glass Menagerie. As an advocate of contemporary music Kyle has premiered compositions by Robert Fleisher, William Kleinsasser, Alexis C. Lamb, Drew Gress, and D.J. Sparr. Kyle holds degrees from Northern Illinois University (MM, Performer's Certificate) and Towson University (BM, Presser Scholar Award). His principal teachers are Gregory Beyer, Patrick Roulet, and N. Scott Robinson.
